Environmental

Shadbolt is committed to acting in an environmentally responsible way using best practice and best available materials in all our activities. The company has already undertaken and in many cases has completed actions to improve our environmental performance and reduce the environmental impact of our activities. In addition we are dedicated to a programme of continuous improvement, setting a series of objectives and targets for new initiatives and for progressive enhancement of current strategies.

environmental management system

The Shadbolt Environmental Management System has now been formally certified for compliance with the international standard ISO 14001: 2015. To achieve this, it is necessary to undergo an intensive third party audit and examination of a company’s in-house environmental processes and procedures.

ACTION PLAN

In order to ensure that our objectives are fulfilled, we have instituted a system for monitoring our activities, against specific targets where possible and appropriate. As a part of the monitoring process, detailed activities are documented by written or computerised records to demonstrate progress. Our plans and objectives are described in detail in our Environmental Action Plan.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Shadbolt recognises its responsibility to minimise environmental impacts and protect the environment, both in terms of working within our site and the impact of our operations beyond our boundaries.

To ensure that we all act with the utmost standards, we have created an Environmental Policy for everyone to adhere to. The Environmental Policy is under the direct control of the managing director of the company.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY & VOCS

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in the air can cause health problems in high concentration levels. VOCs may occur naturally in Shadbolt’s wood-based products, and also in solvent-based finishes. However, the levels of VOC emissions are well below the levels at which any such effects might be expected.

In fact, we consider that our standard core materials and solvent-based finishes for doors and panels meet the requirements for credits for indoor air quality under BREEAM or LEED.

VEHICLE FLEET ACCREDITATION

Shadbolt is delighted to report that it has successfully achieved Gold accreditation from Transport for London’s Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).

FORS is a voluntary certification scheme aimed at ensuring fleet operators work lawfully and to their best possible practices with the overall aim of making London’s roads safer, cleaner and less congested. To achieve the accreditation, Shadbolt had to demonstrate continuing compliance with all current legislative requirements and also that they were striving to improve vehicle/transport safety, transport efficiency, environmental awareness and driver training and accountability.

Shadbolt guidance on EU Timber regulations to stop illegal logging

EU TIMBER REGULATIONS

Illegal logging has severe economic, environmental and social impacts. The EU Timber Regulations (effective from March 2013) prohibit the placing of illegally harvested timber on the EU market. Shadbolt’s purchasing policy aims to ensure compliance. We can also advise our customers of any obligations they might have under these regulations.
