Situated south of Canary Wharf in London’s Docklands, Wardian is a new build scheme comprising two residential towers of 55 and 50-storeys. Containing 766 homes including suites, one and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses, the towers are distinguishable by their generous wrap-around balconies and slender profiles.

Designed in collaboration with Glenn Howells architects, the Eco World-Ballymore development provides a new level of luxury. Residents automatically become members of The Wardian Club, allowing access to exclusive facilities including a 25m open air swimming pool, gym, cinema, two restaurants and a double height rooftop sky garden with mature trees. A 24 hour concierge service is also provided.

The inspiration behind Wardian is the explorer, botanist, and inventor, Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward, a doctor, who invented a method of transporting plant life across vast distances in his innovative glass Wardian cases. Throughout the development, Wardian cases (glass terrariums) can be found filled with exotics trees and plants, many of which are completely new to the UK.

Shadbolt were asked to assist the development, manufacturing and supplying bespoke FSC® certified crown cut medium grey engineered wood “Tabu” veneered FD30, FD60 and FD120 fire resistant doors and acoustic doors (32dB, 35dB and 43dB). Matching stain finished European oak hardwood framesets were also supplied.
