Shadflam fire rated panels

Shadflam veneered panels have been tested to the latest European harmonised standards as recognised in UK Building Regulations Approved Document B2 Internal fire spread (linings).

They are rated European Class B or Class C for reaction to fire according to BS EN 13501-1, based on independent testing.

This performance is achieved with a high-density homogeneous timber particle board with non-enhancing lacquer finish, without the use of impregnation treatments or intumescent lacquers.

  • Panels preserve the natural beauty and variety of wood veneer (subject to the proviso above).
  • Abrasion resistance and durability is equal to standard finishes.
  • The same finish can be provided on doors, frames, non fire-rated panels, trims and skirtings, giving consistent appearance throughout a scheme.
  • Excellent mechanical performance and stability in varying temperature and humidity conditions.
  • Also available with FSC® certification subject to special order.

APPLICATIONS

Euroclass B panels can generally be employed as wall and ceiling linings in any circulation spaces under Building Regulations B2.

Euroclass C panels can be used in most other locations under Building Regulations B2.

Construction
Panels have a high-density homogeneous timber particle board substrate with a wood veneer facing. They are finished with a non-enhancing lacquer finish, without the use of impregnation treatments or intumescent lacquers.

Hardwood edge lippings may be exposed or concealed, square or shaped as required.

Size
All panels are purpose-made to sizes required, up to a maximum of 3050mm x 1525mm.

Panels are veneered and factory pre-finished with two coats of clear non-intumescent lacquer, either matt (10% sheen), semi-matt (20% sheen) or satin gloss (30% sheen).  The appearance is the same as that of a standard panel or door with the same veneer and finish, so that a uniform appearance can be achieved throughout a scheme.

The veneer may also be stained before lacquering.

Building Regulations requirements
In order to reduce the risk of internal fire spread, UK and European building regulations restrict the reaction to fire performance of internal surfaces of walls and ceilings. Surfaces are classified according to the results of standard tests.

The locations where specific Classes are required for internal linings are shown in the tables below: Classification of linings, based on Building Regulations (England and Wales) Approved Document B2 Wall and ceiling linings.

Under current Approved Document B2 performance testing and classification either to the National standard BS 476 or to the European standard BS EN 13501-1 is permitted. At some time in the future it is anticipated that BS 476 will be withdrawn and only the European standard will be accepted.

Note that although the National (UK) and European classes are comparable they are not interchangeable; products cannot claim a particular class unless tested to the relevant standard. Shadbolt panel performance is backed by appropriate test evidence.

INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE

Correct installation of a veneered panel is fundamental to its performance. Suitable handling, storage and site conditions for installation are essential and we recommend that panels are installed by a competent joinery installer.
